Time Out for Parents - Children with Special Needs was written with the help of many parents of children with special or additional needs. The course is for parents of child aged 3 to 11 who have one or more of a variety of disabilities or special needs, particularly those with learning developmental and behavioural difficulties.

Parents with a special or additional needs child face particular challenges:

​

• Standard parenting advice often doesn't work

• Other people don't understand what its like

• It's easy to feel frustrated and isolated

 

The course aims to help you explore ideas and find out what works for you - not what's meant to work! The course aims to:

​

• increase your confidence in your skills and abilities as a parent

• help the relationship between you and your child be better

• teach you skills to help you raise your children's self-esteem

• identify the best way to effectively discipline your child

• encourage everyone on the course to give each other mutual support

• give you the tools help you in your relationship with your child's other parent or carer

• provide you with greater support where you would like it.
